1990’s Knitted Beanies are BACK…

DSC_0019

Farmer’s Market fashion. San Rafael, California. Summer 2016.

This knitted beanie is so 1990’s! They were huge and expensive, my grandmother knitted one for me and I still have it. I am predicting that very soon, all the big fashion houses will design these skull caps again and they won’t be cheap…

When I think of my Grandmother Sylvia knitting me the skull caps, it makes me so happy. So much went into this cap, because it was made with love – and a granddaughter who had very specific design ideas and opinions. It wasn’t created in a day, it took time and effort – and I appreciated it so much more.

Haute in Cleveland (Cleveland, Georgia that is)

unnamed

Alexis. Cleveland, Georgia. July 2016. Such a good high bun..

My love for this town in the North Georgia mountains is in part because I grew up going to sleep-away camp in the deep south and was lucky enough to be “adopted” by a family, with roots in Cleveland, Georgia. It’s pretty funny that I went to a Jewish sleep-a-way camp which was modeled after the film Meatballs (well, that’s what I think) to be entrenched in Black Southern culture. It’s one of the best gifts I received in my life. W.E.B. Du Bois in his book, The Souls of Black Folk talks about how to truly know the soul of a culture, a community is by being a part of that community, eating together, sharing, laughing..and that’s how I became the first Black Baptist Southern Jew.

In all seriousness, one day I’ll write about this more, but I love this town and its people.

Studded sandals are always a good idea – I love the ones by Balenciaga

She’s Got it. Chillin’ in the Park. NYC Style.

Central Park. June 2016.

Check out this hair in The City. Slight shaving action on the side, and you transform your style to always looking funky.

I’m loving this mom’s style – and that’s why I’m sharing so many photos. She’s so simple, but gives off this slight punky-post-modern look.

Love her effort – it was so hot. And she managed to wear heels, walk around a festival – all while being a mom to a young kid..that’s amazing!!

Megan makes Drop-Off so Fly…

DSC_0034

Megan. Marin County. May 2016.

DSC_0033

Megan is a repeat Haute Drop mama. Always looking fly this one….When I run into Megan, she knows that I’m going to beg her to let me take some shots. She always looks good, without that “I tried to look good” look.

DSC_0037

Megan knows how to wear animal print ankle boots, without looking cheesy. Not everyone has that gift – paired with solid leggings, and casual bohemian accessories  – and it works so well.

The striped scarf and leather bag add dimension & cool details.

The New York Times. My Style Validator.

Mara Meter

Me. San Rafael, California. Unable to remove my credit card from the meter

Yes,  this has happened to me before and no, I’ll never learn.  Why aren’t our tax dollars going toward meters that can accommodate various nail lengths? Is our society only built for hands with regular length nails?

Fashion Notes: Moccasins: Minnetonka, Leggings: Lululemon, Bag: Chanel, Top: Zara

If you look closely, you can see my green credit card stuck..until I solicited help from a very confused meter maid – apparently, they are not in the business of helping people who choose style over function. But, with my “charming” persistence, I was able to get the help I needed.

Nails are so “in” right now. As usual, I’ve been pulling off these bad boys for a few years. It started with Madonna on the cover of VOGUE, with long, pointy gold nails. I had to have them. No matter how many of you, were horrified by what you labeled “cheesy” – I pulled through and proved you all wrong.

My own mother was not a fan of my long, semi-pointy nails. Until, the Jewish bible (aka, The New York Times) ran a Sunday fashion story on this nail trend, http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/11/t-magazine/fashion/long-pointed-nails-trend-manicure.html?_r=0

So once again, it has been proven that I have quite a style instinct, thank you Fashion of the Times.

Maybe I can’t type or use a regular phone, maybe I didn’t hang up my phone properly and someone had to hear me yell at my offspring, maybe I accidentally lit a nail on fire and didn’t notice, until my child pointed it out – but it’s all worth it, in the name of style.

Farmer’s Market Haute…

DSC_0006

Marnina. Marin County Farmers Market. April 2016.

Apparently, the stylish come out to the Farmer’s Markets. I had so much fun hanging out with other mom friends – and made some new friends, including an 87 year old Tony Award winner. He grew up in NYC, we sat and chatted- he spoke to me in Yiddish, Hebrew and Spanish. Who knew, I would find such a character at the San Rafael Farmer’s Market?

Amber. Miami, Florida. April 2015.

It was amazing to be in Miami again, and check out the school pick up fashion. When I lived in Miami, I loved capturing Amber’s style on Haute Drop-Off.

How cute is Amber?

DSC_0039

We all need an oversized, cool bag like this, especially with three kids.

As you know, Miami is so hot – it’s hard to go out without revealing skin. Confidence is key!
