Jenny. Aspen. August 2016.
Well, well, well isn’t this a throwback to the 1990’s. Every “it” girl wore cowboy boots and baby doll dresses in the 1990’s – I believe Betsey Johnson started the trend with her sexy floral dresses all the girls coveted – back then, her stores had a no return policy, so you had to be sure that pricey dress looked good.
The nails and small tattoos add that 2016 modern edge to Jenny’s look.
Cowboy boots are always sexy with a short dress, for shorter legs aim for an ankle boot, sometimes full size cowboy boots can make legs appear shorter – but who cares!!!
Jenny’s roots are rock-n-roll…this photo is so pure..
Sarah. Ojai, California. 2015.
A California mama in Ojai – relaxed, non-complicated, smiling…It’s all very California, even in the way Sarah is dressed – a floppy hat reminiscent of the 70’s, her shiny straight hair, striped fitted dress and an authentic smile… I’ll never look this easy breezy – right?
There is a difference in style between LA, which is always on point, very sexy and laid back bohemian – but in places like Ojai and Joshua Tree, the style seems to be vintage, and the period 1970’s. I think it’s funny that when people visit Joshua Tree, they even pack like they are headed to a music festival or the original Woodstock. I’ve attempted this look, but I always come out looking Miami.. like this:
Shot of me by T. Palmer.
Fashion Notes: Boots: Miss Sixty, Skirt: Zara, Top: vintage & designed knitted by my mama, Bag: Dooney & Bourke 1980 Bucket Bag, Cocktail Ring: Vintage Paris, Earrings: Shandi Levy Jewelry
I’m going to New York City tomorrow, and I haven’t packed – but I know, my suitcase will be filled with much more cool looking and funkier clothing then I wear in California. When I’m in NYC, I pull out my real style and feel like I can get away with anything – it’s so fun. This week I think I may even wear my Adidas high tops all day – and leave the heels at home. CRAAAAAZZZZYYYY!!

Juliana. San Rafael, California. November 2014.
Denim on Denim mixed with Converse – love the jean vest, such a youthful look on this young mother – love it!
New York City. September 2014. Ice Cream Truck on Fifth Avenue.
First of all, I told you guys EXPOSED BRAS are “in”. I couldn’t’ crop this woman out of the photo, so here is an example of the “bra frenzy” happening right now.
It’s tough to look put together on a hot September day. Especially dealing with kids and sticky ice cream. This Mama does it well. I love the way black clothing looks on blondes – and black leather.
Picture me (Mara) in this look, I would probably look like a cast member of the Jersey Shore..I could not pull it off. But this mom looks great.
NYC is a visual playground..and the styles vary like no other city. Happy Tuesday friends. I will be happy if I get to shower today 🙂
Ariana. Fairfax, California. June 2014.
Fashion Notes: Polka Dot heart romper and Red Dr. Scholls. Ariana got my attention because she looks like a New York girl, excuse me woman. But she’s all California.. her tattoos strategically placed, one with her daughter’s names. I love her romper, it’s very flattering and highlights a women’s curves – -1950’s pin-up!!

Fashion Notes: Ariana calls this her “off duty yoga outfit”, leggings: Onzie, off the shoulder blouse: Bella, lace up boots: Steve Madden, fringe “hippie” bag: H&M, sunglasses: Ray Ban
Baby Fashion Notes: trench coat: Mothercare, kicks: Sketchers
Araceli. San Rafael, California. April 2014.
Araceli is one of those people, I could photograph daily. Her style can’t be defined or categorized – she’s “got style” this woman. And the best thing about someone with true style..it’s authentic and creative.
Araceli grew up in San Francisco, a huge influence on her look – – when you are raised in a major metropolitan area, you are constantly exposed – stimulated – educated – by pure presence. And it shows in her fashion, she is a great mixer..vintage, new, high end, big names, small names..you get my point. When you are confident in your own fashion ability, it doesn’t matter “what you are wearing”.
Araceli is a yoga teacher, mom, dancer and music lover.
Fashion Notes: will get more details..but her black blazer paired with grey jeans and patent leather oxfords –with a loose braid screams Urban Bohemian – it’s NYC and SF merged!!
