eDrop-Off & Haute Drop-Off Unite in Aspen

Corri McFadden. Mom. Wife. Fashion Innovator. Aspen. August 2016.

CORRI: Obviously, I saw this stylish mom and asked to take her photograph for Haute Drop-Off. With an automatic yes, and a natural ability to casually pose – I quickly knew Corri wasn’t an amateur. As we talked between shots, I learned that Corri is founder of the on line designer luxury consignment shop, eDROP-OFF. The company successful in its own right, was made famous by the VH-1 show House of Consignment, which documented Corri’s everyday challenges and successes growing eDROP-OFF into the company it is today, http://shopedropoff.com

eDROP-OFF has been featured in Women’s Wear Daily, InStyle, Marie Claire, People, and Elle, along with national television programs including The Today Show and Entertainment Tonight.

DESIGNER BAGS & UNSOLICITED ADVICE: As weird as it may seem, since I was a little kid – I had a passion, which was rummaging through old clothes, closets and junk. The first time I entered a Salvation Army, I decided it was so much more amazing than any Toys-r-Us. As I got older, my love for rummaging grew and became more sophisticated, I began to rummage through my Grandmothers and their friend’s closets – especially the ones with vintage Gucci. I still have a vintage Gucci mini-trunk my Grandmother’s best friend Mildred gave to me – I’m pretty sure I begged her, after I found it deep in the belly of her large Miami closet. I also think this was the same day Mildred and my Grandmother gave me unsolicited advice along with my vintage designer trunk, “Mara, keep two legs in one stocking”.

So learning how Corri created a fashion empire based on her rummaging through women’s closets and re-selling their unused things – is pretty much an amazing reality, especially for someone like me.

Corri and her equally charming husband took their daughter to the Ducky Derby in Aspen, where thousands of rubber ducks are emptied into an Aspen river – all to raise money for local charities. Since having Zelda, Corri has created a mother/daughter blog, glitterandbubbles.com, a resource for just about everything for today’s modern mamas. Corri features “rad moms” and her daughter Zelda has all of us captivated, living through her childhood experiences, all with a great sense of fashion (thanks to very stylish parents).

Kiss my feet…cute shoes by Here/Now, http://herenowshop.com/shop/scarlett. Love how they’ve taken old school all white slip on sneakers and added a little pop art. For around $260 you can get a pair, check out the different styles by clicking the link above.

See how Corri’s half french braid and braided top connect?

Who says “diaper bags” have to be boring – a little leopard print adds some edge to any stroller – and most importantly mom.

Fashion Notes: Corri is wearing Free People apparel, Ray Ban 1960’s Beatle”esque” glasses, Here/Now kicks. Leopard backpack by Coach.

Long legs don’t care – – all black in the summer with white kicks – how a city mama does it. For more about Corri or eDROP-OFF, click the links in this post. (and let me know what you bid on!!)

Gucci Crew at JFK Drop-Off

Nihad. JFK Airport. March 2016. (excuse the bad photos – it was taken in a rush)

Nihad is going back to Egypt and dressed comfortable and cool for the long flight. We all know that I stop for fanny packs, and was particularly excited about Nihad’s throw back Gucci.

We’ve all been seeing these baggy jeans on the street – I’ve bought them and returned them. I bought a pair of these from Zara on West 66th, showed my friend Katherine my new purchase. She started hyperventilating with laughter and fell off the couch, she then chased me with her iPhone to take future black mail images. Apparently, from her reaction, I looked like I was wearing mom jeans and was a part of that SNL skit. Being tall is key to looking good in these jeans – and maybe wearing a crop-top to balance the no-shape.

Washing Away Past Fashion Sins. Haute New Year!!

Mara. Miami. January. 2015. Turning my Back on Past Fashion Faux Pas.

In my Brother and Sister-in-Law’s gorgeous shower…Chloe wedge Clogs, Vintage Gucci Bag, Zara Shorts/Tank, Anthroplogie Sweater

I’ve made plenty of bold fashion mistakes–but they aren’t really mistakes..usually it’s more about wearing something that looks bad on me, and thinking I look great.  I Then see a photo, and bow my head in “fashion” shame.

It’s all fun..and I Wish everyone a Happy-Fun-Sweet-Healthy 2015….and make sure you take a few bold fashion risks.

xx Mara

Music and Fashion. Motel Drop-Off gets Glamorous.

Cara.  Photography Rock Star.  Aunt to lots o’ kids.  Miami, Florida.  October 2014.

Name Dropping: Cara’s images of rockstars and other popular musicians have appeared in many of the most important music and culture magazines of the day (think Kanye, Jack White, Timbaland, My Morning Jacket, David Grohl).  You can see Cara’s shots in Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Time Out and The Village Voice to name a few.  She has worked with the most prestigious names in the music industry;  MTV, Universal Music, Geffen, Sony, Roc Nation, and Rock the Vote.  Cara’s fine art photography is displayed in several galleries in the States. Check out her inspiring work (especially if your a fan of music and fashion) at www.carabloch.com

Fashion Notes: Suit: Vintage 1960’s custom made Bill Blass suit, all clothing and accessories, including the suit from Hollen and Jen Show Room, www.hollenandjenshowroom.com, Hollen and Jen have an eye for vintage across all decades..for a lover of all things old, this place is pure fashion candy. Check out their Facebook page, and you will drool over the latest vintage finds.

Photo: This shot is a throw back to another time in Miami, the motel as the background with a tailored vintage 1960’s Bill Blass number is beyond brilliant.  I met Cara through my close friend Shandi, founder of Shandi Levy Jewelry.  Cara and Shandi are jet setters, who always hang out with NYC and Miami’s most stylish and they usually (well Cara) capture it all on film..you may even spot me lurking in the background.

Mara Likes it: As a huge fan of fashion and music, I especially am drawn to the creative works of Cara Bloch.  Cara is an incredibly gifted and imaginative photographer, and I personally worship everything she does.  Her work is cool, stylish and stare worthy.  And no matter how long you look, Cara’s photographs cause you to look one last time, just in case you missed a detail.

Haute: I get that Cara doesn’t meet Haute Drop-Off’s usual “criteria”, but I’m a rule breaker, and Cara is an amazing aunt (she is always using her friend’s kids in her shots), who is also a photography rock star…of course she had to be featured on Haute Drop-Off.

I Love Fanny Packs and I’m Not Ashamed.

unnamed-15Fanny Packs in Photo by Jaunt, www.jaunt.com

“In doing research on the aforementioned latest fashion obsession, I learned that the fanny pack was actually named because it was intended to sit on the fanny. But the fanny pack was not worn on the rear when it gained popularity, because no one wants to make it easy for a pick-pocket. And in other countries “fanny” means “vulva,” so for obvious reasons, another term is used.” Click below to read more….
