I Only Buy Trail Mix for the M&M’s.

DSC_0023

Ferry Building. San Francisco. February 2017.

I love Patagonia, on kids. Neal had the cutest little Patagonia vest. The vest was a hand me down, it reminded me of Vermont, and rich hippies from liberal colleges in the Northeast. I had a Patagonia jacket in College, a friend from Rhode Island gave it to her Miami friend, to maybe fit in a little more in preppy Boston. I used to wear it on all my plane rides, it kept me warm and I felt like a boarding school kid, who hiked on the weekends, and kept trail mix in my back pack. But the thing is, we all know I’m the person who buys trail mix purely for the M&M’s, it’s not as embarrassing to buy trail mix as it is to buy king size M&M’s.

Currently, I love seeing Patagonia on guys with a John F. Kennedy Jr./Ben Harper style sensibility, who know when to wear a Patagonia jacket and when to opt for a jacket that would look weird on an outdoor trek. You get my point. And If you are going to go with an outdoor brand, Patagonia is a company with integrity and a cool factor.

This mom’s style is casual and functional. It’s not always about looking like you are prancing down a runway. She’s running after a toddler, and he’s fast.

DSC_0025

Flannels are everywhere, thank you Kurt Cobain..90’s style is everywhere.

She’s wearing highlighter are the apples of her cheeks and eyes, this is a hot make-up trend now – I’ve been using RMS Beauty Master Mixer, www.rmsbeauty.com – this product is all natural, created by a veteran make-up artist. You’ll glow!!

Haute Denim Dad.

dsc_0043

Ryan. Sausalito. December 2016.

Cute dad eating at FISH in Sausalito, 331fish.com, one of my favorite Bay Area lunch spots – bring lots of cash, that’s all they take – and it’s a little pricey or seems pricey when you actually pay with cash – because who uses cash anymore? But it’s delicious, sustainable fish, the highest quality and care go into their food – not to sound pretentious, but you can taste the love and care in each bite.

Love this kids very British paddington bear sweater.

dsc_0042

Great shoes – so much better than weird sneakers – you guys know what I mean.

dsc_0035

This dad’s look is very simple, but still so stylish – especially the shoes. The jeans are also a perfect shade of denim, and I get weirdly excited when I see a perfect shade of denim. It would be a dream to spend a day in the Levi’s vintage warehouse… someone get me in there!!

Brazilians are always Haute (to me)…

Fernanda. Marin County. October 2016.

dsc_0012

Check out those espadrilles! Fernanda is Brazilian and now Californian..I grew up lucky enough to be around Brazilians – stylish, cool, laid back and fun… maybe these are stereotypes, but these are the characteristics I find in many Brazilians. Also insanely gorgeous!!

dsc_0011

Perfect love…

Strike a pose… Fernanda exercises daily (as you can see).

Chanel doesn’t make me Shallow. Grateful Dead Haute.

Dari. Terrapin Crossroads. San Rafael, California. August 2016.

On Friday night, I met my friend for a drink at Terrapin Crossroads owned by Phil Lesh (famed bass player of The Grateful Dead). The music venue/bar/restaurant in Marin County just added a huge outdoor space with a modern playground entertaining most kids. I have to say, having a place where parents can listen to live music, have a great meal and a cocktail, while their children play outdoors (no site of iPads) is kind of a brilliant idea.  Where else can you take small children on a Friday night, where they can run around and be free -without judgmental looks?

unnamed-10

Here I am listening to the music in my new Vince Camuto Gladiator sandals from 02 in Aspen and SUNCOO Paris gypsy skirt from Pitkin County Dry Goods – all on sale! Lately, I’ve been wearing my Chanel bag a lot – even with my workout clothing. Sometimes, I feel like designer bags are so showy and I get embarrassed  – especially where I live now. When I go to places like Terrapin Crossroads, filled with so many people who are products of the counter culture movement, I temporary question my style choices.

unnamed-9

I think to myself; “Mara, you idiot, you are surrounded by people dressed in tie dye t-shirts and pants (yes, they make tie dye pants), some with fanny packs, ripped jeans, hippie skirts and lots of very comfortable looking footwear – and you are wearing a designer bag, like a capitalist jerk!!”  I think maybe I should have brought my old faithful bag, my Colombian Mochila  – it’s hand made by the Wayuu Indian women on the border of Venezuela and Colombia, and it’s gorgeous and cool. But no, I bring the Chanel.

Is it the inner rebel in me? Am I making a politically motivated style statement? Something a long the lines of, ya know what? I like fashion, I even sometimes love designer bags – but I’m still a good human gosh darn it!  My love of fashion from Goodwill to Lanvin, doesn’t take away from my depth as a human…right?

This cool mom has amazing tattoos, I am pretty sure she’s married to a tattoo artist. I do bet that all those tattoos are very expensive  – kind of like the price of a small Chanel bag? But somehow, it’s not looked at the same way. Style is my art..tattoos are body art.

So “rad” as the surfers say..

Love between a parent and a child is indescribable.

Over the Knee Boots are PREPPY.

Son-Hee. Mill Valley, California. November 2015.

She’s rocking over the knee flat boots at Sunday soccer.

Rebecca Minkoff Collection handbag

Son-Hee almost looks like she’s dressed to ride horses at a Polo match. I love the idea of wearing a button down short sleeve shirt underneath a cap sleeve knit. Especially, if you are like me and can’t stand the way you look in a cap sleeve.

Haute Man Style Can Be So Simple….

Kristian. Dad. Visual Designer. San Francisco. 2015.

Kristian is head of visual merchandising for the hat maker, Goorin Bros., http://www.goorin.com

Isn’t Kristian’s hat so cool? It makes a simple look, pop with a little added hip…

I really love his inner arm tattoos – they are simple, and a perfect size. All tattoos done at Spider Murphy’s Tattoo.

Such California shoe choices…flip flops and Vans…surfer and skater favorites.

Sexy Legs at Drop-Off. Mini-Dress in Marin.

DSC_0094

Lisa. Psychologist. Dancer. Fashion Lover. Marin County, California. May 2015.

Love the combination of an open toe Jil Sander ankle boot/heel with a min-dress and cropped jean jacket. Funny, because this was my Miami look, when I lived there. And slowly as I’ve been living in Marin, I’ve moved away from my short dresses.

Lisa dances several times a week..those legs!

well, I think I may take up dancing. Lisa was raised on the East Coast, and loves clothing..she is definitely a mixer, but likes specific designers.

Berkeley Style at Drop-Off.

AMP_Eli9_05-03-2015_2658

Lacreasa. Berkeley. May 2015.

I was at a birthday party in Berkeley when I learned one of the dads is a professional photographer, Adam Moore, www.sugardigital.com, Adam does a lot of editing. So when my camera ran out of battery, I called my new photographer friend over and kind of demanded he take photos for Haute Drop-Off. And here they are – pretty cool setting, pretty cool subjects.

AMP_Eli9_05-03-2015_2676

I met Lacreasa at the Berkeley Playground. She just got back from Jamaica and enjoys learning about Rastafarianism,  She’s also a mechanic, which is pretty darn cool. I wish I had the patience to fix things, but I’m pretty sure it would be fun to learn how to work on cars – -and it’s pretty stylish looking.

AMP_Eli9_05-03-2015_2655

SO I worship long nails, especially on a mechanic!! Lacreasa was helping build and paint with her kids..she is not afraid to dive in. That’s the key to long nails, you can’t let them stop you from everyday activities. For me, I had a lot of issues with minor activities like putting a credit card in a parking meter. That’s why I’m back to sporting my boring, short nails.

AMP_Eli9_05-03-2015_2666

It’s all about the backpack now..especially ones made in other countries, that are specific to different cultures…love this one.

AMP_Eli9_05-03-2015_2670

You know, I’m such a mixer – my long nails mixed with my huge earrings and boho style – this is exactly what this mom is pulling off – – -we’re all multi-faceted – it’s so much more fun.

Haute Mama on The Grateful Dead’s Baseball Field.

Fairfax

Meggan. Fairfax, California. May 2015.

This field is where The Grateful Dead used to play baseball with other musicians, here in the bohemian county of Marin.

Meggan grew up in the bohemian town of Fairfax, located in Marin County. She was raised by two New Yorkers, and lived in NYC for a long time – before moving back to her California roots. I can see the mix of NYC and Northern California in Meggan’s style – she looks like she’s strolling a flea market on a Sunday in the East Village.

Well, I love a good old Dooney & Bourke 1980’s pocketbook, what wasn’t even hip in the 80’s, has enjoyed a resurgence for at least 5 years.  I purchased a great Dooney & Bourke bucket bag at an Aspen thrift store for $25.00 about three years ago – what a score!!

DSC_0052

Please excuse the garbage – kind of shocking that someone “littered”!!! A cropped cardigan is always a good staple in your wardrobe – especially in California climates.
