Susie. San Anselmo, California. Soccer Practice. October 2014.

As you can see lately, I’m hanging out at soccer games and practices.  I know my life seems like never ending glamour and jet set travel – but it’s not, well at least some of the time (i’m being funny here). I trek my kids to their various activities, hoping that maybe the inner prodigy will emerge. Liam tried fencing this week, I woke up with a sword in my face at 7:00 am.

But it’s all really fun, I meet great people and fantasize about someday having my own skills, because my kids have many.  I owe that all to Waldorf, we’ve taught them nothing.

This is Susie. Susie runs a private San Francisco family foundation focusing on Mental Illness.  Mental illness funds are hard to come by, and it’s refreshing to hear about a foundation working to make life better for those in need.  I want to make a joke, but it’s probably inappropriate.  Let’s just say, after telling Susie I see my therapist twice a week, she quickly “befriended” me and kept handing me cash.

Susie is a native San Franciscan. She grew up in the city, and lived an urban life. I love hearing stories of her artsy formative years.  Attending school in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, Susie was exposed to the bohemian movement as a young teen.  It was an interesting way to see the world, and Susie now only wears Dream Catcher Earrings made exclusively by Chanel.  (i’m funny, I know)

I befriended Susie, only due to needing friends in Marin County who wear shorts as short as mine, it worked and we happen to have like two other things in common.  I know I keep repeating this, but the 1990’s are making a 2014 comeback – majorly.  Susie looks like she is headed to Lollapalooza to hear Ani DiFranco.

Susie’s body type allows for a thick belt and shirt tucked – she’s in proportion.  For short waisted women like me, it’s usually better to wear a longer shirt.  If you have thick legs, show those ankles – and wear a heel, if possible.

Kris. Mom of three, writer, lover of large accessories, April 2014. Mill Valley, California.

Fashion Notes: Yellow Sandals: Frye, Cut off Shorts: Free People, Tank: LA Made, Pocketbook: Diane Von Furstenberg, Earrings and Necklace: Harp Designs by Shelly Harper (an Oakland, CA designer)

This shot was taken in Mill Valley, California, which is about 15 minutes North of San Francisco right over the Golden Gate Bridge.  This town has quite a history for being a creative mecca drawing in musicians, artists and writers..making Mill Valley have a bohemian feel, even if it currently is one of the most expensive places to live in the States.

In the 1960’s many beatniks called Mill Valley home, even if it was temporary – such as Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg.  Mill Valley is home to the famous Sweetwater Music Hall, with Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead as one of the owners.  The Sweetwater has an incredible list of talent that plays on their intimate and special stage, in a few weeks Michael Franti will be performing on that very stage.

Mill Valley, although a town now quite wealthy, still holds true (or at least from my perspective) to its liberal, artsy, bohemian and creative history – -so maybe it has many signs of materialism, but it has heart, a creative one.  Walking around this pristine looking town, with it’s gorgeous Redwoods and natural beauty, you will spot lots of residents riding different types of bikes, scooters and things with wheels, In which I don’t even know the name. (and believe me some of these “wheels” cost more then a car)

Kris and her family enjoy the mix of an urban town center a long side indescribable amounts of nature, such as hiking, mountain biking, surfing and whatever else you are interested – and believe me, in this area, its all been done.  Kris not only puts fingertips to keyboard as her words flow beautifully, but she is an avid trail runner  – whatever that means :) well, it means she runs seriously hard terrain.

Seth Blogseth blog 2

Seth. Dad. Actor. Writer. Aspen, Colorado. August 2013.

Okay, fine Seth is my brother.  But when I met Seth after my morning hike and noticed his stylin’ look, I was like “dude, you are totally making it on my site today!” and he happily posed (and followed excellent direction as most actors do).  I told Seth that I love his sweater, which he thought quite funny, since a household of individuals (I will not mention names) poked fun at his fashion choice.  But his sister said no no no, don’t listen to them, you look so cool..

The jean shorts are amazing paired with Tretorn’s, a little flashback to the Hamptons in the late 70’s early 80’s.. all Seth needs is a station wagon with wood paneling and he will totally look the part.  Great job Seth, oh and check out some of this actor’s comedy shorts at www.sethandavi.com

Haute Short Shorts with a Great Belt at Tennis Drop-Off

jean short blog

This mom knows how to wear short shorts.  Notice the shorts are short, but a bit wider and not tight..the thick belt adds great style..and wearing flats with cut offs is great to run around in the miami heat – it also makes you look less va va voom, which is fine sometimes, but not really the look you want when dropping your kids off at tennis.  Great white t-shirt.. I realize that with this body, she could wear pretty much anything.. she is looking great!!

and once again here is my old article in The Huffington Post on my experience wearing short shorts at school drop-off…..http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mara-menachem/short-shorts-fashion_b_1646145.html
