Babydolls -n- Boots, Haute.

Jenny. Aspen. August 2016.

Well, well, well isn’t this a throwback to the 1990’s. Every “it” girl wore cowboy boots and baby doll dresses in the 1990’s – I believe Betsey Johnson started the trend with her sexy floral dresses all the girls coveted – back then, her stores had a no return policy, so you had to be sure that pricey dress looked good.

The nails and small tattoos add that 2016 modern edge to Jenny’s look.

unnamed-5

Cowboy boots are always sexy with a short dress, for shorter legs aim for an ankle boot, sometimes full size cowboy boots can make legs appear shorter – but who cares!!!

unnamed-2

Jenny’s roots are rock-n-roll…this photo is so pure..

1990’s called, they want their knitted beanies back…

unnamed-9

Like I said previously, my Grandma Sylvia knitted me this skull cap in the 1990’s when they were all the Grunge rage. Every “it girl” from Kate Moss to Drew Barrymore were wearing these things & design houses were charging a hefty price. I wanted one, I was convinced my face with adequate cheeks, would somehow transform into a waif looking Kate Moss if I had access to a skull cap.

unnamed-8

So my amazing Grandmother asked me what colors I wanted, and began knitting me this hat. I’ve saved it all these years, and now they are back in style & I finally have made the admission that wearing this hat will never morph me into a Kate Moss – but it makes me smile, thinking about Sylvia, and how much we loved each other.

unnamed-11

I never knew how to wear the skill cap best – to the back, which felt like a Kippah, which my Jewish brothers wear at Temple or on top of the head like Muslims wear to Mosque. Obviously, this was about fashion not religion & I appreciated this skull cap so much more than if I bought a designer one myself – – this was truly made with love by one of the greatest loves in my life, my Grandma Sylvia.

Mara Meter

Me. San Rafael, California. Unable to remove my credit card from the meter

Yes,  this has happened to me before and no, I’ll never learn.  Why aren’t our tax dollars going toward meters that can accommodate various nail lengths? Is our society only built for hands with regular length nails?

Fashion Notes: Moccasins: Minnetonka, Leggings: Lululemon, Bag: Chanel, Top: Zara

unnamed-2

If you look closely, you can see my green credit card stuck..until I solicited help from a very confused meter maid – apparently, they are not in the business of helping people who choose style over function. But, with my “charming” persistence, I was able to get the help I needed.

unnamed-4

Nails are so “in” right now. As usual, I’ve been pulling off these bad boys for a few years. It started with Madonna on the cover of VOGUE, with long, pointy gold nails. I had to have them. No matter how many of you, were horrified by what you labeled “cheesy” – I pulled through and proved you all wrong.

My own mother was not a fan of my long, semi-pointy nails. Until, the Jewish bible (aka, The New York Times) ran a Sunday fashion story on this nail trend, http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/11/t-magazine/fashion/long-pointed-nails-trend-manicure.html?_r=0

So once again, it has been proven that I have quite a style instinct, thank you Fashion of the Times.

Maybe I can’t type or use a regular phone, maybe I didn’t hang up my phone properly and someone had to hear me yell at my offspring, maybe I accidentally lit a nail on fire and didn’t notice, until my child pointed it out – but it’s all worth it, in the name of style.

Hilary Duff Wears Short Shorts, so do I..

unnamed-5

Are women just mean? Is it biological? Or are we conditioned from an early age to judge, criticize and mock other women? As a feminist, I feel terrible putting down my fellow sisters, but after reading the comments regarding Hilary’s drop-off “look”, I’m not happy with the state of our society, particularly females belittling each other.

I call it “sexy hippie”, or Coachella Style..

It’s Coachella time, so here are some Haute Drop-Off parents with looks that remind me of the style so prevalent during this music festival….

Natalie. Mom. Environmental Activist. Film Maker. Marin County. 2015.

Natalie moved from Los Angeles to a bohemian Northern California town, where she and her husband create documentaries.

Not to make this all about Mara Mara, but I must confess that I’ve been wanting to look good in a sun dress since I was a tween. Unfortunately, my curvy body (aka huge boobs) didn’t quite conform to the fabric limitations of a thin strapped, breezy dress. I know you are rolling your eyes, but living in Miami and not being able to wear a cute sun dress was painful. I’m kidding, but I still want to rock a sun dress, preferably a vintage 1990’s Betsy Johnson…man, I would scroll through the racks at Betsey Johnson looking for that perfect floral dress…usually it would end in me buying a mini skirt.

Natalie has the perfect lean dancer figure to look stunning in this empire waist practically floor length dress.  ahhh to be tall, thin and narrow  – – -what that must be like…

Harlow. San Rafael, California. October 2015.

It’s hard to find anyone who wears bigger gold hoops then me.. Harlow is pretty close, and with her great length hair – – -the earrings are front and center. Her baby even is wearing accessories.. (they may be Hindu beads, but still accessories)

“Haute Hippie” is a high end clothing company, which makes bohemian inspired clothing using beautiful fabrics.  Harlow is one Haute Hippie putting together her own bohemian look, using clothing & accessories from local Marin County (mostly Fairfax) stores.

Fashion Notes: Sandals: Cooperative from Urban Outfitters, Bag: Louis Vuitton, Dress: Cerre, Hat: Barney’s New York’s private label

Autumn was raised in Aspen and after living in Los Angeles and London, she and her man (a Brit) decided to raise their family in this gorgeous town.  I love hanging out with Autumn in Aspen because she knows everyone and is so fun! Even with a “newish” baby, Autumn makes time to go out. It’s hard being a new mom, and very important to remember your individual self outside of motherhood  –

unnamed-3

How cute are they? Love Autumn’s use of layering with her pearl chains. And her exposed shoulders add a little classy sexy edge…

Philadelphia. June 2015.

What a great place to be in June – the streets are filled with people, cafes, stores and life. Philly is a great city that’s small, diverse and highly cultured. Music fills the streets and I got to capture some stylish parents on my day in Philly.

This young mom looks so cute with her accessories and great smile. The tattoos are oh so cool. Fringe bags are so hot now… look for them on every city block.

How Does my Ass Look? Haute in HuffPost.

10915649_10153462300649186_8502239614991587967_o

“…Landing at JFK at nearly 3:00 a.m., I wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings. I was focused on walking from the west side of Central Park to the east, where I could plop on a bench lazily and watch my kids play. “Hold up,” a young guy spoke into his phone, “I’m looking at a damn perfect ass.”
