Brooklyn as a Film: It’s been so fun hanging in NYC the past couple of weeks – well except for the stifling heat. I keep picturing Spike Lee’s film, Do The Right Thing – which takes place in Brooklyn during a very hot summer. That film vividly describes the kind of heat you feel existing in a New York summer.

I watched this film several times, but the most memorable was in a college Film class – where we analyzed, wrote, discussed and debated each scene from the film. ┬áThe sexual nature of the ice scene, the racial tension in Brooklyn and how brilliantly Spike Lee depicts the humanity in all people – bigots or not. And how Lee demonstrates the heat one Brooklyn summer so well, while watching you can literally feel the sun blazing down on your face – even in a dark, cold movie theater.

This is Emiko’s first child, he’s so gorgeous, and instead of using a typical diaper bag, this stylish Japanese mama went with a cool backpack, that’s functional.
