Haute Tag Hangin’ – 1990’s Style again..Dads.

Summer. San Rafael, California. 2017. Cute Dad. Cute girls.

It seems like it’s Labor Day, but this was taken during the July 4th fair weekend. This dad was so cute, he’s like “should we put our drinks down” –  he felt like it looked a little weird – and I completely can relate. I also come from a world where drinking during the day and/or while you’re with your kids, is considered questionable.

STYLE: Love his acid wash jean shorts – – they’re back guys!

THE KICKS BABY: This is such a great combination – moccasins and Jordan’s  – in my house we definitely have a lot of Jordan’s and a lot of moccasins.

Check out this dad’s hat – -the tag hanging down reminds me so much of Miami in the 1990’s – LOVE LOVE LOVE

Hat tag close up—check it!! Tattoos and hair in bun for her – it’s so hot out there..

Once again – -the 90’s are back guys – love this Dad’s look.

Channeling Jessica Alba. Haute Jenny.

Jenny. Marin County. Summer 2017.

You all know the deal, I saw Jenny, she had an amazing jean jacket – and I had to hear her style story.

When I approached Jenny, who reminds me of Jessica Alba, she was a bit confused. As moms, especially with little kids, it’s hard to find time to urinate, let alone get dressed.. so her look, which I love, is organic. Jenny is stylish naturally, and probably got dressed in 10 minutes, to take her kid to story time before his morning nap.

It’s my duty as a human, and lover of people – to say, ya know what mama, you look damn good.

I love denim, always have with as much passion as an Aretha Franklin song (well, maybe not that much passion). Jenny’s jacket is so COOL, she added the patches herself. I’ve been re-furbishing jean jackets since I’m a kid, and it would be a dream to have a room in my house dedicated to re-making denim… Jenny did good work here.

New moms, can get lonely, it’s a weird and amazing time. You are surrounded by other parents via your kids, and it’s not always a match made in friendship heaven. But trust me, you’ll find your friends, I’ve made sisters and brothers by just being a parent, and having to ask if I could borrow a diaper after one of my kids had an explosion, and I forgot diapers. I made a friend, when I couldn’t unhook my kid from his car seat… we need to be good to each other, smile as much as we can and make our fuck ups public – so others let their walls down a bit.

These lounge pants are so in right now – which is such a pleasure. I know they aren’t tight & don’t show off your curves – but they are like heaven, when you just want to be comfortable – and they look cool.

Amazing, and Jenny is wearing her collar up!!

Is that a Grateful Dead patch? or a just a skull? I’m so surrounded by Grateful Dead culture, I must think all skulls have to do with the band. Love a white bag, it makes everything look funky.

Drummer Gig Worthy Shorts, Finally.

Mill Valley, CA. May 2017. Drummer. Dad.

I try not to be judgmental about clothing. But I do like to see a little attempt at style when checking out bands..like I made a slight, low key effort. I realize for drummers, it’s hot and sweaty and they need the stamina of a long distance runner and street fighter. They should be comfortable, right? maybe I should design a line of stylin’drummer stage wear made with hidden lycra? I digress.. so I DO understand the desire for drummers to wear shorts on stage – which is hard to pull off. Here’s an example of a drummer who pulls off shorts, he’s at a carnival with his kid – not on stage, but it works for both situations.

This dad and drummer likes to wear all black. He keeps it simple in black denim. Vintage Levi vests are flying off the shelves at high end stores and Goodwill’s across the country.

When someone has leg tattoos, they are all “in” – this is the real deal.

he could totally wear this look while performing – it’s cool, low key – but still has the level of “I care about style”.

Matching hats!

Matt’s so Rad. Pro-Skater. Hot Dad.

Pro-Skater Matt Field and his son. Mill Valley, California. May 2017.

I’ve known Matt for a few years now, he’s an incredible skater -he’s one of these people who’s totally aware of his physical presence. Matt is a skateboarder, a professional -so no matter what, like a rock star, Matt will always have cool props. An avid Yogi, Matt continues to test himself physically.

Let’s talk about Matt’s style;

I’ve never seen Matt not look stylin’ – never. And I’m not surprised that Matt designed a line of skater shoes – these maybe from that line. Matt’s arms are ripped (as the kids say), and that is all YOGA baby! (too bad I can’t even lift my own body weight)..meaning he looks amazing in tank tops. When I talk about style, it’s a creative outcome for me..not in a pretentious way – like Matt here, he just has style – he gets dressed quickly, but has an eye for what looks cool. He takes risks, and that’s what we all see.

When I photograph someone with an incredible fashion sense, it’s exciting – it’s like looking at art – only in human form.  Check out Matt’s look below;

If I wore that hat/bandana combo, I’d look like I was trying to fit in at a Carrie Underwood concert.

Red socks  -gold shoes sans laces…

Haute Papa. San Francisco.

Post Street. San Francisco. April 2017. iPhone 6.

I purposely walked around San Francisco to take photos, but didn’t charge my battery. So excuse the iPhoto shots – especially because the lens always has left over coconut oil from my hands. He told me he’s from Pittsburgh – but he explained, Pittsburg in California. Who knew? I got a little American geography lesson.

This dad was so kind to take this little girl out of her stroller, but then she started being a toddler and I felt bad for messing him up. Dealing with a toddler, is equivalent to dealing with a highly drunk, emotional friend  – you don’t know what you are going to get – and it’s kind of petrifying!!

unnamed-4

But look at that cute face.

unnamed-5

Ripped acid wash jeans, so nice.

I love a little neck tattoo. Cute dad.

Public Parks Make me Happy.

Victor. San Francisco. February 2017.

DSC_0013

Victor isn’t dressed like a fashion plate, but he and his son are so cute.

DSC_0008

I love water fountains at parks, I know they are probably filled with the most disgusting germs – but it’s something that hasn’t changed – like the library or post office.

DSC_0010

When my boys were little, I lived at the park. The playground was the only place, I could sit my tired booty down and not worry about anything – the kids were free and so was I. I’m thinking I should personally thank the Parks and Recreations Department for allowing me that time to socialize, read magazines and yes, beg other parents to push my kids on the slide….

When you live in cities, parks become the glue that keeps parents of non school age kids together – I made so many interesting friends at the park, especially in Miami.  Neal’s first friend was a child of a Japanese diplomat and his mom, a police officer in Tokyo, was one of my first “mom” friends.

My point: It’s lonely out there, bring your kids to the park. You may learn how to take down a Japanese thief in two easy steps, or just get to have some old fashion small talk with adults. But don’t go without your kids, because that’s weird.

DSC_0026

Running after two kids is serious exercise, you have to be in major shape – I used to play mind games with older kids to get them to play with my little ones at the park.. what?

DSC_0021DSC_0019DSC_0017

Yea, how can you not look at them and smile.

Haute Russian Style circa 1800..

unnamed

Ethan and Elliot. Marin County. January 2017.

Dressed like Russians in the late 1700’s, early 1800’s this crew is getting ready to visit Fort Ross in California to experience Russian history…

unnamed-9

My own child in the middle, he’s wearing my skinny jeans from Zara, which he had to squeeze into and I had to split the ankles with a scissor so he could manage to get them over his ankles. He’s also wearing a cropped military blazer, which fits him much better than me. Yamato on the right is wearing a fur hat and cape from The Salvation Army, pretty fun to create costumes for kids.

unnamed-1

Father and Son. Ethan goes on a lot of field trips, because he is a professional outdoorsman – at least to me – I’m pretty sure he can light a fire with wood and stuff 🙂

unnamed-2

I think Elliot is wearing his mom’s moccasins.

unnamed-3

Elliot’s sweater could be from the 1970’s or the 1700’s – not sure??

Papi has some Tattoos…Haute.

Andy. Mill Valley, California. September 2016.

dsc_0040

Apparently Andy gets stopped often. I asked him if he’s in accounting, because he looks the part – how very wrong was I – he’s an Engineer.

dsc_0032dsc_0038

Andy can wear the most simple of things, and always make a style statement. When you are covered in body art, it’s hard to separate from a somewhat permanent persona – I think it looks amazing.

Man Bun. Beard. Tank Top. Vans. Hot Papa.

Eric. Aspen, Colorado. August 2016.

Eric and his son skateboarded to a local pizza place in Aspen, after the town’s summer event – The Ducky Derby – a fundraiser where about 30,000 rubber ducks “race” down Aspen’s Roaring Fork River, money raised goes to local youth organizations.

unnamed-1

Eric’s wife Sarah owns a store called http://www.grayaspen.com  – The store carries a collection of classic pieces with a bit of a bohemian tone – based on Eric’s style, I imagine they are a pretty cool looking couple.

unnamed

Tank Tops are really current for men right now – they are reminiscent of the late 1970’s California surf culture – — I guess it seems that most men are borrowing from that hippie/intellectual/surfer 1970’s look – I happen to LOVE it.

unnamed-3

Man Buns: I love them. They are cool and Eric knows how to pull it off. I know many of you poke fun of the good old man bun, but you know you love it! Let’s talk shorts on men, they can go very wrong, but this dad know how to make shorts look causal and cool – not dorky. The length is perfect, not too long, not too short – no pleats…

unnamed-5

Eating a quick slice…

unnamed-2

Father/son Van action… love it!!

Tattoos can be Clean Cut. Handsome Dad.

unnamed-8

Cody. San Rafael, California. May 2016.

unnamed-7

Cody has California style, and even mixed in a little vintage, with his grandfather’s army belt. Even with all those tough tattoos, Cody appears clean cut. What a handsome dad!

unnamed-9

Love this belt. Like I always say, raid your grandma’s closet!! (or grandfather in this case)
